Call for volunteers!

School Council Volunteer opportunities:  https://www.wisewoodfamilies.ca/

The HWW community thrives with engaged families, students and faculty. Our School Council invites members of our learning community to support our many initiatives.

One of the most important ways parents/guardians and community members can make a meaningful difference for students is by participating on the school council.

Under the Education Act, a school council is a collective association designed to advise the principal and the CBE Board of Trustees on matters related to the school. School councils have legislated advisory and decision-making authority defined within the Education Act and the School Councils Regulation. They are different from Parent Societies & Associations, whose main function is to raise funds for the school.

About Our School Council

Warrior Parents/Guardians are Invited to Join School Council Meetings!

Everyone in the school community is invited to participate in meetings. The School Council is headed by the Principal, an executive team (consisting of Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, and Key Communicator), and Representatives of the Teaching Staff and Students.

The School Council is primarily an information sharing, communication and advisory vehicle for parents, school administrators, teachers and student council.

Thank-you to all who helped with the Henry Wise Wood Parents and Alumni Association's most recent casino! The funds raised through this event provide much needed resources, equipment, and experiences for our students. See the Parent Society web page for more details.

Meeting Dates/Schedule

The Henry Wise Wood School Council meets on the fourth Monday of the month at 6:30 pm in the school courtyard.  All meetings are online unless otherwise indicated.

Why is School Council important?

The School Council exists to foster collaboration between parents, students, community members, and school staff to improve student learning. It serves an advisory role to the school principal and school board regarding educational issues, school budgets, and policies, ensuring the parent voice is heard.

School councils have legislated advisory and decision-making authority defined within the Education Act and the School Councils Regulation 94/2019.

The School Council typically discusses matters such as:

■       Feedback on school planning and direction

■       Reporting to the Calgary Board of Education

■       Advising the principal and board of trustees on school matters
